Maya Rupolph’s new variety show The Maya Rudolph Show premiered last night on NBC. The SNL veteran’s new show seems to be a throwback to The Carol Burnett Show, which in a sea of reality TV shows is definitely a breath of fresh air.

The season premiere featured SNL alums Fred Armisen, Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell, which is sort of a “thing” when it comes to SNL alums. They stick together. There were skits about parents who voice GPS systems, as well as a performance from Janelle Monáe. Here are some of the funniest sketches of the night.

Clutchettes, did you watch Maya Rudolph’s new show?

I did not watch it, but I am curious to see if it will be funny to me. I’m not really a fan of the Saturday Night Live brand of humor, but some of their alums have movies that crack me up so I will give a sistah a try…

No, but I heard it was funny.

I tried the first 15 minutes or so, but I wasn’t laughing, so I channel surfed away…..

I did circle back in time to see Janelle Monae. Yeah! Love her.

I’ll give it another go……not givng up on Maya yet.

The gps skit was cute, and the show was worth watching just based on Janelle Monae’s lively performance. I like the concept of the show, and it was also good to see Raphael Saadiq as the band leader. Sean Hayes is always hilarious too.
