I wish someone had told me that Vanessa Stiviano, the mistress of L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling, was going to appear on ABC’s 20/20 with Barbara Walters Friday night, especially since Barbara asks all the good questions!
When Walters asks her if she thinks Sterling should apologize, Stiviano replies, “Yes. Absolutely.”
But Stiviano tells Walters that Sterling is “emotionally traumatized” by the whole fiasco, or more like because the world heard what he said. “He’s hurting,” she says.
Stiviano doesn’t think Sterling is a racist, though. Feel free to side eye her view of a racist.
“I think Mr. Sterling is from a different generation than I am. I think he has brought up to believe these things…segregation, whites, and blacks,” Stiviano says. “But through his actions, he’s shown that he’s not a racist. He’s shown to be a very generous and kind man.”
I wondered if Stiviano fell into that cliché of being blinded by love, but she says she isn’t in love with him, in a roundabout way.
“I love him like a father figure,” she says.
Meanwhile, Sterling is just hoping for his chance to sit down and tell his side with the interview legend. He tells DuJour magazine that he’s limiting himself to interviews with Barbara Walters and the NBA. But he did express “remorse for the way his situation has unfurled” and his thoughts on Stiviano releasing the audio footage of his racist tirade to TMZ.
“I wish I had just paid her off,” Sterling says.
