Lee Daniels and Richard Pryor’s ex-wife, Jennifer Pryor, have been working on a Richard Pryor biopic for some time now. But now it seems as though production could be starting soon, since Nick Cannon has hinted about preparing for the role.
Yes, that Nick Cannon.
Up until recently, the talk around Tinseltown was that Marlon Wayans was the lead contender to portray the deceased comic. But during an interview with TMZ, Cannon hinted about his part in the film.
“Here’s the thing. There have been a lot of people out there who’ve discussed playing this role,” the 33-year-old said. “I never want to jinx anything because you guys know how movies work. If it’s not in production, it’s not real. So all I’ll say is that I’m doing the work right now. I’m doing everything that I need to do to embody it when the opportunity is right,” Mariah Carey’s husband told TMZ.
As part of the “work”, Cannon has grown out his hair and taken up smoking. Cigarettes. Not freebasing.
Cannon may think he’s the one for the role, but if Richard Pryor, Jr and Rain Pryor had anything to do with it, they’d pick Marlon Wayans. They spoke to TMZ and said only Marlon could pull off the intensity for the role. Couple that with the fact that they’re not pleased with Pryor’s ex-wife being involved with the movie, it doesn’t seem like Daniels even consulted with them.
Clutchettes, who would you prefer? Nick Cannon or Marlon Wayans?
