Officer Daniel Pantaleo, the officer who used the apparent chokehold on Eric Garner, who died after being attacked by cops, was stripped of his gun and badge. Last week, video emerged from the brutal confrontation in Staten Island that showed officers choke Garner after questioning him for no apparent reason.

Another officer named Justin Damico, according to the Daily News, was  placed on desk duty, but will retain his gun and badge. He has been with the NYPD for four years.

This isn’t Panteleo’s first run in with the law. Court records show that within the past two years, three men sued Pantaleo in federal court over allegedly unlawful, racially motivated arrests.

In addition to the actions taken against the officers, several EMT workers have also been removed from their jobs.

From Associated Press:

Four emergency workers involved in the medical response for a New York City man who died in police custody after being put in an apparent chokehold have been placed barred from responding to 911 calls, the Fire Department of New York said.

The two EMTs and two paramedics removed from the city’s emergency response system are the latest public safety workers to face reassignment as questions mount about Thursday’s death of Eric Garner. Two police officers – including the one who put his arm around Garner’s neck – have been put on desk duty.

The medics’ modified duty restrictions will remain in effect pending an investigation into their actions, fire department spokesman James Long said Sunday.

Rev. Al Sharpton demanded justice for Garner and accountability from citizens who attack police officers during an appeal from the pulpit at Manhattan’s Riverside Church.

Garner was “choked by New York City policemen,” the Harlem preacher told the congregation. “What bothers me is that the nation watches a man say `I can’t breathe’ and the choking continues, and police surround him and none of them even say, `Wait a minute, stop! He can’t breathe!'”

Garner’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at the Bethel Baptist Church in Brooklyn.

We need to do more, this got to be a wake up moment fro black America….

Black men need to organize themselves and form a militia, we need to defend our neighborhoods from these white low life thugs and black gang-banger thugs. The reason this keep happening to us is because we don’t defend ours and retaliate. The white man understands one thing and that is POWER……

    • trish

Sam I agree, because if we don’t stand up and do something about it now and say enough is enough it’ll only get worse. We need to start being extremely militant like our people were back in the day. These cowards are getting bolder and bolder each day even while being recorded they are still killing us and don’t even bat an eye.

    • noirluv45

      Yes!!!!!

    • Tonididitonem

Boy bye. Fuck around and get yourself killed.

    • D.J

I agree with the other commentators, but I just can’t take sam seriously. In the Wendy Williams he stated light skinned women are better that dark skinned and that all the ill’s of the Black community are BW’s fault. He’s cool with intra racism against BW while whining about WM racism and their power (a concept he doesn’t even understand). I can’t get behind his hypocritical and impotent man rage.

    • Tonididitonem

I can’t get behind most black men’s faux rage against racism when they openly practice colorism. Sorry no allies here.

    • D.J

Agreed, I’m tired of being expected to be enraged when BM experience racism but understanding of their own racism against BW. It’s plain bizarre but that’s sexism for for you.

    • Ms. Vee

C’mon though. Colorism among blacks isn’t getting anyone killed. Whether you support BM or not them being murdered by klan members in police wear has gone too damn far. And don’t think black women are safe from the wrath of bigots. Im sure you witnessed the beating of that black woman on the highway by the police.

    • Tonididitonem

I have no love for colorism apologists. If you don’t think it contributes to the devaluing and low self esteem among black women then you’re intentionally dishonest. Most black women assaulted by police have darker skin tones. Sooooo it applies here too. I’m no one’s mule. Take up your own cross.

    • Ms. Vee

Colorism apologist? Where did I say that colorism doesn;t contribute to the low self-esteem and devaluing of black women? As a dark skinned (and might I and 4c haired) black woman I hate the colorism BS as much as any black woman. I will gladly sit silently and watch the marginalization and mistreatment of any black person that cosigns colorism (man or woman). But to be murdered by klansmen…that’s just too far.

Please tell me you are being sarcastic? Form a militia! Your trying to get innocent people kill. I hate this brother got killed. But the smartest thing he could have done was to just allow them to arrest him. Make bond and hire an attorney. One against three is not a fair fight. It’s OK to be right, but you don’t want to be dead right.

    • Ms. Vee

      Straight up..

  • noirluv45

This is war, folk! They are legally allowed to slaughter us, and we cannot stand still any longer. How many times do we have to march and sing, “We Shall Overcome?” I’m sick of this nonsense. #nomoretalkingdamnit!

    • trish

I’m with you on this one Sister noirluv45!!!!!

    • noirluv45

trish, I am sick and tired of being sick of tired!!!!!

    • vintage3000

Agreed. I’ve said it zillion times, at this point this epidemic of police brutality and murder needs to be addressed on a federal level. A task force that will mobilize and take this to Obama’s office. Do gays, lesbians and illegal immigrants need to start being murdered by the cops before the White House addresses this genocide on a national level? What does it take for these murderers to lose their jobs and face criminal charges, instead of just getting cushy desk jobs. They keep doing it because they know they can, it’s a human rights issue. Maybe if Amnesty International got involved and embarrasses Obama, show the world he does not care that the people who put him in office are being legally murdered.

    • noirluv45

YES, Vintage! All of this. If those groups were regularly taken down like us, war would’ve been declared. My sister said that Obama needs to address this!

    • vintage3000

The irony is that I truly believe Obama’s being elected has unleashed these demons. They’ve always been there, but i think many of them feel obligated to show their alleged white superiority even more since 2009. How does someone do this KNOWING they are being filmed in broad daylight, and they don’t care?!

One thing I’m concerned about is becoming numb to this evil. I can’t even watch the video of this man begging for his life, it’s heartbreaking and needs to be international news. Obama is too busy offering his condolences to foreigners regarding their tragedies, i suppose. Maybe he’ll invite these cops to the WH for a damn beer summit.

    • Ms. Vee

Damn straight! My advice to black folk is to line stop lining up for shoes and toline up for self defense weapons like…guns perhaps. Its time to start shooting/fighting back.

    • noirluv45

I’m ready, Ms. Vee! We’ve got to do something, and talking isn’t helping.

  • Colette Marcheline

It must be hard to strip someone of their badger. I’ve heard they’re really stubborn creatures, badgers…

  • Objection

Ok, put up a fight the next time the cops try to arrest you. Come back and tell us how it worked out for you.

  • D.J

This reminds me of the Radio Raheem death scene in Do the Right Thing so it’s weird and disturbing to see almost exactly the same thing happen in real life.

    • joe

Spike Lee has just released an edited version of that scene where the murder of Eric Garner is spliced into the film. It’s powerful.
