When was the last time you saw a bunch of black people hiking up a snow-capped mountain? Never? Well now you have the chance.

“Expedition Denali” is a documentary that follows 9 mountaineers in their attempt to become the first all-African-American team to climb Denali (a.k.a. Mount McKinley) in Alaska, which rises to 20,320 feet above sea level. The team successfully funded their expedition by raising over $100k on KickStarter.

The climbers included Scott Briscoe, Stephen Deberry, James Kagambi, Billy Long, Ryan Mitchell, Tyrhee Moore, Robby ReChord, Rosemary Saal, Adina Scott, Stephen Shobe, and Erica Wynn.

A long with the documentary being released this fall, there will also be an accompanying book. Check out the trailer below:

In the spirit of Matthew A. Henson who went to the North Pole. This is very cool.

  • First, I like how the documentary will describe the
personalities of the mountaineers. It shows that black people are diverse and
it refutes the erroneous stereotypes that some have of black people. Black
people have the right to hike, climb, and to do many actions. They are
certainly following in the footsteps of Matthew A. Henson with 21st
    century flavor of course.

I’m so excited for this. I guess I’m what you’d call an “adventurous black person.” I’ll support this film 100%. Now can we get some black folks on Shark Week???
