Many of us have been running from veggies like the plague since elementary school. And when we grew up and started to actually consume them without being threatened, life wasn’t necessarily all the more exciting, albeit healthful. So we purchased cookbooks to elevate our kitchen game but most of those became dust bunny collectors beneath some old Spike Lee DVDs. The recipes were either too extensive and time-consuming or they required ingredients you could only find in the nether regions of the planet so to hell with those, we thought.
In come the anonymous duo behind the hilarious, plant-based foodie Tumblr destination, Thug Kitchen – a collection of easy, delicious meat-free recipes stitched together with hardcore instructions like “throw it in some motherf***ing pita bread and call that sh*t a sandwich” and informative tidbits like “fennel and ginger do f***ing wonders for your digestion”. It wasn’t long before folks took notice and began demanding more.
During an interview with Publishers Weekly, the team explained how they came up with the fun, approachable concept. We were honestly just talking about what the blog would be like and were like, ‘Fuck you, eat a salad,’ one of the authors recalled. “So many cooking and healthy living blogs are aspirational, and we just wanted to show that we don’t take ourselves too seriously and we want to have a good time.”
They’re gearing up to reveal their identities and release their first official cookbook, “Thug Kitchen: Eat Like You Give A F*ck” on Tuesday October 7th and their promotional book tour kicks off a day before on Monday October 6th at Powerhouse Area in none other than Brooklyn, NY – home of the realest.
Sh*t is about to get real.
