Mike Tyson went all the way off on a Canadian anchor after he brought up his old rape case during a recent interview.

Tyson was in Toronto to perform his one-man show, “Mike Tyson: The Undisputed Truth” at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night and was doing media rounds.

As part of his visit, he and promoter Alex Choko stopped in for an interview with CP24’s Nathan Downer. Everything was going well until Downer brought up his rape conviction.

Tyson then said, “It’s so interesting that you come across like a nice guy but you’re really a piece of shit.”

Downer tried to point out that they were on live television but Tyson responded, “I don’t care, what are you going to do about it?”

According to TMZ, Tyson’s representative said he felt “deceived” by Downer because he allegedly broke an agreement to focus on his one-man show.

Here’s the full video of how the interview turned into a disaster:

  • Putting on my PR hat: If you are a public figure who has been involved in a scandal EXPECT to be called out on it at every event or interview. It will happen. Know how to handle the situation without blowing up. Taking off my PR hat: If you don’t want to be called a rapist, don’t rape.

That situation is what, over 25 years old? He should have a “pat” answer for questions about it by now and then know how to redirect the conversation and keep it moving.

While I agree Tyson didn’t handle this well, the reporter also had absolutely no tact or respsect and was called out on it. Side bar: It was kind of funny because you could tell Tyson was sitting there still thinking about the question even though they had moved on and getting angrier by the minute. Again, not the best way to handle it but the way that journalist asked the question, had it been me, I would have ended the interview immediately.
