Thursday nights have been regulated to Shondaland and the numbers prove that they are profitably thriving.
ABC has a lot to celebrate – thanks to their affiliation with Shonda Rhimes who has the Midas touch when it comes to highly compelling programming. Things are progressing so well that the network had no choice but to create the heavily used hashtag #TGIT – in response to all the fans who literally hold Twitter hostage when the champion lineup of shows begin their run.
Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder, boasted highly impressive numbers during the critical month of November which is known for being the ultimate forecaster when it comes to the popularity of shows. It is a competitive landscape but Rhimes has proven she is more than capable of holding her own.
Aside from giving viewers a good reason to stay indoors as they escape the frigid temps, all three of her offerings shattered the ratings game this season.
According to Entertainment Weekly, this past Thursday night saw an intense spike in ratings, which can be attributed to the fact all three shows featured their winter finales.
“All three dramas from showrunner Shonda Rhimes delivered strong ratings Thursday night, with Grey’s at 8.3 million viewers and a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating, Scandal at 10 million and a 3.1 rating and HTGAWM with 9.8 million and a 3.1 rating. HTGAWM in particular rose 7 percent from last week. “. “ABC points out the network won all four Thursdays in the adult demo during the November “sweeps” period – which hasn’t happened for ABC in at least 23 years”.
Sounds like Shonda Rhimes is going to have a very Merry Christmas!
