There are certain things in the entertainment industry that white women have made a living off of, that would be virtually impossible for a Black woman. In a recent radio interview, Lisa Raye took a few jabs at the likes of Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian. Raye spoke about Swift, who has a new boyfriend every month, and sings about it, as well as Kim Kardashian, who basically rose to fame after her sex tape.

In Raye’s eyes, profiting off of these things could never happen if they were Black women.

But does she have a point?

Honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with writing and singing about your exes, the way Swift does, and dating is something women do. And it’s not like Swift is out there spread eagle and letting the word see her goods like Kim has. We’ve all seen what happens to Black women and their sex-tapes. First there was Montana Fishbourne. Then there was Mimi from Love & Hip-Hop. Needless to say, if sex-tapes were like album sales, theirs went double wood.

But does any black woman in their right mind want to rise to fame because of a sex tape? Of course there are those who do, but like Raye said, they sure won’t reach Kardashian status.

Clutchettes, what do you think about Lisa Raye’s comments?

At the end of the day white media is not going to elevate non-whites above themselves. Its just that simple. If having 100% black owned media outlets hasn’t resonated with us yet then there’s nothing to discuss.

    …we see you Clutch.

What Lisa Raye said about Kim K and Taylor S is an off-hand comment. It’s about 1% of the whole interview.

I wish Clutch posted about the more important topic Lisa Raye is addressing. Leave the other stuff to blogs such as Necole Bitchie, and MTO.
