Tracy Morgan

A year after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a horrific auto accident that claimed the life of his friend, Tracy Morgan is returning to his old stomping grounds to host Saturday Night Live.

NBC breaks down the deets:

Tracy Morgan will return Studio 8H on Oct. 17 for his second time as host. As a former cast member, Morgan earned acclaim for his seven seasons on “SNL” and was Emmy nominated for his role on the award-winning comedy series “30 Rock.”

In June 2014, Morgan was traveling in New Jersey when his limo van was hit by a Walmart truck. Fellow comedian James McNair was killed in the accident, and Morgan suffered a brain injury, broken ribs, and a fractured leg.

The truck driver faces criminal charges stemming from the accident, and Walmart and Morgan reached an undisclosed settlement.

Back in June, Morgan made his first public appearance since the accident on the Today Show, telling Matt Lauer, “My goal is just to heal and get better because I’m not 100 percent yet. I’ll get back to making you laugh, I promise you.”

Looks like he was right.
