R&B songstress Monica is one of few entertainers who has managed to keep her personal relationships with fellow musicians relatively intact throughout the course of her career, so many of her fans were surprised to hear her speak on her broken friendship with fellow ATL native Ciara during a recent interview.
Monica is gearing up to release her new album Code Red next month and she stopped by Streetz 94.5 radio in Atlanta to do some promotion and chat about everything from her music, to her kids, to her career aspirations before music and finally, her relationship with Ciara.
According to Monica, she and Ciara had been friends since adolescence and Ciara was someone whom she considered a sister. Speaking on how their friendship came to be, she said:
We were very close. My brother and her were childhood friends and I just looked at her like a sister. I don’t know how all these different stories got misconstrued and put out. I’ve read all kind of stuff that is absolutely not true!
A barrage of rumors have suggested that Monica and Ciara fell out in recent years because of Monica’s relationship with one of the mothers of Future’s children, but she says the reason for their now-strained relationship had nothing to do with Future.
She and I did have a disagreement. We both had issues with each other. When you’ve been friends for a long time, almost two decades, and you let things fester and you don’t talk about them, it can cause a breakdown that other people might not understand.
I love her. I’m not going to build somebody up to break them down no matter what is taking place. And if ever I did anything to hurt her, it wasn’t intentional because my love is from a sincere place.

Monica has always been known to keep it pretty classy when addressing her personal life on public platforms and from the sounds of things, she’s still standing by that practice. Hopefully she and Ciara can have a conversation and mend their long-time friendship.
