In case you’re not up on game, All Things Ankara is a style site that is dedicated to shining a light on ankara print fashions. Also known as Dutch wax print, ankaras are colorful, patterned fabrics popular across West Africa, and the diaspora.
After not finding any sites celebrating ankaras, Nikki Billie Jean founded All Things Ankara as a way to build a “movement of ankara print inspired creatives and enthusiasts who create visual art and collaborate on fashion productions such as photo and video editorials, campaigns and events.”
And it seems to be working.
Recently, ATA partnered with Jidenna for its upcoming Nigerian Independence Ball in Maryland. To promote the event, the ATA team rolled out an absolutely gorgeous editorial and short film that showcases ankara prints juxtaposed against a backdrop that looks straight out of Napoléon Bonaparte’s time.
Dubbed the “Nigerian Renaissance,” the campaign features model and philanthropist Jessica Chibueze and Jidenna dressed to the nines in colorful looks that mix West African aesthetics with Renaissance-era French styles.
The spread features designs by ATA’s founder Nikki Billie Jean, along with Glad Fabrix, Ohemma’s Closet, Madam Kateri Jewelry, and Timmy Ajulo.
Isn’t it stunning?
