Remember when Ben Carson said he’d take out a gunman if he ever found himself in the same situation as the victims of the recent shooting in Oregon? Well, according to a recent interview, he once had the chance.
A few years ago , Carson was waiting in line at Popeyes chicken in Baltimore when he claims a robber came in and stuck a gun in his ribs.
Despite his previous statements that he’d go all Meteor Man on a a man with a gun, Carson didn’t take down the robber, instead he directed him to another target.
“I have had a gun held on me when I was in a Popeyes,” Carson said during a radio interview with Karen Hunter.“[A] guy comes in, put the gun in my ribs, and I just said, ‘I believe that you want the guy behind the counter.’”
But…what happened to springing into action and eliciting help from others? Apparently, that all went out the window.
During another interview on The Michael Smerconish Program, Carson said the gunman “went to the appropriate person behind the register who gave him the money, and he left the store running before the police got there.”
Carson also admitted that although he owns guns, he doesn’t carry them and wouldn’t use them in such a situation.
“In circumstances like that, even if I were carrying a firearm, I wouldn’t use it,” he told Smerconish.
“Some people think that just because you have a firearm you’re going to be irrational and you’re going to be using it,” he added. “I don’t think that’s the case.”
So, I guess Carson prescribes to the “do as I say, not as I do” school of thought?
Good to know.
