Ben Carson has moved past Donald Trump in several national polls to claim the top spot in the Republican primary, and now he hopes to win over key constituents of the Obama coalition–young Black voters.

While Carson has turned off many Black Americans with his comments on the Black Lives Matter movement (he called it “sickening“), Obamacare (he said it was worse than slavery), and women’s access to abortion (he compared women to slave masters), his campaign hopes a new hip-hop radio ad will appeal to Black voters…because, rap music.

Carson’s campaign is releasing the 60-second spot called “Freedom” on “urban” radio stations in Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Birmingham, Alabama, Jackson, Mississippi, Memphis, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas….basically, where the Black folks are.

Despite his hopes that this jingle will convince Black voters to overlook his past batshit crazy comments, it’s going to take a lot more than a few rap bars to convince African Americans to support Carson’s candidacy.

    Democrats do nothing for blacks

  • This is something of an attempt to appeal to black people and the young and it’s not working. For long years, the two capitalist major political parties have advanced war, austerity, chauvinism, massive privatization, and other evils. So, the GOP is headed by extremists (many of whom are billionaire donors) who not only want to cripple Social Security and Medicare (which were won by the actions of the working class and the poor. During the 1930’s, there were dozens of labor strikes since people wanted economic rights. During the 1960’s, many people stood up for human rights too), but they desire to support imperialist policies that has caused havoc to the standard of living to many people in the States. Ben Carson refuses to expose the current, patriarchal, colonial/capitalist system.

He has refused to expose the lie of white supremacy. If he wants to appeal to more black people, then he has to connect the oppression that we face as black people (involving racism, discrimination, and economic inequality) in concrete terms to the overall international struggle against Empire. Carson has not opposed the war on Drugs, the mass incarceration state, and police terrorism in public. Police brutality is an epidemic and cops have killed over 1,000 human beings in 2015 alone. Also, Ben Carson is wrong to compare the ACA to slavery. So, we must not bow down or worship the Democrats or the Republicans. We believe in total political independence.

Wow Sister. LOL. You keeping it real today as you should. ;).

    • elle D.

LOL–he is really sad and pathetic. But the folks have him believing he can win, I have yet to hear any presidential evidence of the sort from his camp.

    • I feel you Sister. He’s deluding others and he’s deluding himself if he believes that he can win. Me personally, I haven’t seen a race as strange as the GOP Presidential race of this year.

    • elle D.

Sigh. It is a colossal mess.

    • It certainly is. Our people and others fought for voting rights, for workplace standards, and for environmental protections. We will fight for these things in the present and in the future.

    • Goodnight Friend. Bless you Sister like always.

    • elle D.
