Ben Carson has moved past Donald Trump in several national polls to claim the top spot in the Republican primary, and now he hopes to win over key constituents of the Obama coalition–young Black voters.

While Carson has turned off many Black Americans with his comments on the Black Lives Matter movement (he called it “sickening“), Obamacare (he said it was worse than slavery), and women’s access to abortion (he compared women to slave masters), his campaign hopes a new hip-hop radio ad will appeal to Black voters…because, rap music.

Carson’s campaign is releasing the 60-second spot called “Freedom” on “urban” radio stations in Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Birmingham, Alabama, Jackson, Mississippi, Memphis, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas….basically, where the Black folks are.

Despite his hopes that this jingle will convince Black voters to overlook his past batshit crazy comments, it’s going to take a lot more than a few rap bars to convince African Americans to support Carson’s candidacy.
