Janet Hubert, who most people commonly know as the first Aunt Viv from the Fresh Prince, let the chopper fly Sunday night on her Facebook page. Hubert, who was fired from the show back in the day after confronting Will Smith about not speaking up for everyone when it came to raises, still has an axe to grind.

Hubert’s rant was about Jada Pinkett Smith’s proposed boycott of the Oscars, which ironically comes at a convenient time when Will’s box-office flop, Concussion, didn’t receive a nomination.

“First of all, Miss Thing,” she began, “does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?”

She continued, “The second thing, girlfriend, there’s a lot of s–t going on in the world that you all don’t seem to recognize. People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills. And you’re talking about some [expletive] actors and Oscars. It just ain’t that deep.”

Hubert went on to say, “And here’s the other thing, for you to ask other actors, and other black actresses and actors, too, to jeopardize their career and their standing in a town that you know damn well you don’t do that. And here’s the other thing—they don’t care. They don’t care! And I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living, made their living and made millions and millions of dollars from the very people you’re talking about boycotting just because you didn’t get a nomination, just because you didn’t win.”

Then she commented on what happened back in the day on the show.

“Well karma must be a bitch, cause now here you are. Here you are, you’ve had a few flops and you know there are those out there who really deserved a nod,” she said.

And to end her rant, Hubert stated the only Oscar she’s concerned with is an Oscar Meyer wiener with mustard and relish.

  • I always love Janet Hubert’s keeping it real vibe. It is great where she is just keeping with honest about Hollywood. She is right that there are tons of problems in the world beyond the Oscars. We see imperialism in Africa. We witness the growth of economic inequality and the epidemic of police terrorism in our communities. Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith made post racial remarks and now Jada is advocating a boycott. Jada Pinkett Smith is from Baltimore. I have relatives from Baltimore. I know about Baltimore’s history and culture. Back in the day, Jada Pinkett Smith spoke a lot of conscious words in the A Different World Show as Sister noirluv45 has mentioned. Now, Jada is acting brand new with statements about covers and Will Smith made the ignorant remark about how racism is not prevalent in America. Her greatest point is that Jada and Will are part of Hollywood and that system has exploited black people for a long time. I respect an Oscar Meyer much more than an Oscar. We should promote excellence as black people and not seek acceptance from those who don’t care about us in the first place. I give Janet Hubert’s commentary a million plus thumbs up. She never disappoints. Bless her. Plus, she’s beautiful inside and out too.

      Well said, brother.

    • You’re Welcome Sister. You have made very eloquent words too.

Janet Hubert never bites her tongue for anyone.

Aunt Viv went offff! Anytime anyone starts a sentence with first of all, you know a dragging is about commence. And honestly she told no lies, Jada is mad because her husband wasn’t nominated but his performance was subpar and his accent was trash. ‘Tell Zeee Trouff’……yeah f outta here with that boycott mess.

Yes she truly did read the Smith’s for filth.

It must be chilly because shade was thrown throughout this video. I do think Janet Hubert comes across a bit salty since it is the Smiths and it is no secret that their is no love lost between them but she isn’t lying. I do think it is problematic that Jada is all of a sudden calling for a protest at the Oscars when Hollywood has always been Hollywood and showed their true colors. I can’t stand people who pick and choose when to be Pro-Black when it comes to their interest only, if Will was nominated Jada would have been quiet as a church mouse. Being pro-Black is to be pro-Black for all Black people’s interest not just yours. And the fact is Black Hollywood should have been stood up, showed out and paid mainstream award shows and white Hollywood dust. With that being said, if Jada and other Black entertainers are serious with this protest I better see them at ALL the Black awards shows from BET, NAACP Awards, Soul Train Awards, the Black Girls Rock Show, the Centric Awards, etc. and pooling their money to make, produce and distribute their own movies worldwide and team up with other young singers, actresses and actors to put them on. Don’t just lay the idea out but make the blueprint and DO the work of creating and being the change.Don’t let the Oscars throw you a bone next year either cause you know they are going to nominate and choose Black movies and Black actors/actresses to combat the bad press they are getting now. Stay woke people…
