Imagine your young adult novel based on Black Lives Matter activism, which hasn’t even been released yet, already in a bidding war with movie studies? Well that’s what was going on with Angela Thomas‘ book The Hate U Give.
The book is the story of 16-year-old Starr, who although is from the hood – attends a suburban prep school. Starr is the witness to cops shooting her best friend, and is trying to live between the world of activism and the ‘burbs.
Like we said, the book isn’t even out yet, but it’s already being made into a movie, starring Amandla Stenberg.
According to the aman, the movie adaptation was sold to Fox 2000, Temple Hill and State Street.
Not only will the movie star Stenberg, but it’s also being directed by George Tillman, director of The Longest Ride, Notorious and Barbershop.
Congrats to Angela Thomas!
