Since blowing audiences and Hollywood insiders away as Patsy in 12 Years A Slave, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o has been very selective about the projects she has taken on.
Earlier this year she appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and right now she’s appearing on Broadway in Danai Gurira’s play Eclipsed. Now, Nyong’o’s next big project, Disney’s The Queen of Katwe, is hitting theaters this fall.
Based on the book, The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster, the film follows Phiona Mutesi, a young girl from Uganda who trains to become a world chess champion. In the film, Nyong’o plays Harriet Mutesi, Phiona’s mother.
In addition to Nyong’o, the film stars newcomer Madina Nalwanga and David Oyelowo, and will hit theaters in limited release on September 30 before being rolled out to other theaters.
We can’t wait to see the first trailer.
