Baltimore Pastor Jamal Bryant isn’t afraid to speak his mind. As the leader of the Empowerment Temple Church, Bryant has been an outspoken activist in the anti-police brutality movement; he’s worked to register voters in his city; and he’s blasted his fellow clergymen for backing Donald Trump’s presidential bid. While Bryant has become a very powerful force in his local community, he’s also struggled with his fair share of scandals.

Bryant’s previous marriage ended after the pastor had an affair, and after repenting his sins, it looks like the clergyman may be up to his old tricks.

According to the Christian Post, Bryant addressed the most recent rumors that the single pastor fathered a child out-of-wedlock on the video streaming app Periscope.

Over the last week, a lot has been said and a lot has been suggested and like you I was thrown into a tailspin. I had to shut down for a minute so that my response would not be that of a man but be priestly as a man of God. To that end, let me say to you I am one of those rare people who are flawed with character. That with all of my issues I don’t run from them I stand right next to them.
Those of you who have been with me you are fully aware that some eight, nine years now, I went through a divorce and claimed all of it my responsibility. The worst mistake you can ever make is to repeat the exact same mistake.
The last time I went through something, I shut down, wouldn’t talk to anybody, tried to in fact deal with it all by myself but I understand that there is strength in numbers. The issues, pertaining and surrounding the allegations are in the middle of a legal discourse that preclude me from going into any depth to talk about it. But let me say to you, while many things have been said about me, running is not one of them, I stand on God’s word that he is my battle-ax and my butler and I bear witness His grace is sufficient and his mercy endures.
Bryant didn’t outright admit to fathering the now 10-month-old baby, citing a pending court case, but a paternity test conducted on the child names him as the father.
While Bryant insists that he is “flawed” and God is his “battle-axe,” his tone–that he should be forgiven–is markedly different than the sermon he preached back in 2014. Back then, Bryant invoked the Chris Brown tune and told parishioners, “These hoes ain’t loyal,” during a sermon about Pontius Pilate’s refusal to listen to his wife’s pleadings on Jesus’ behalf.
“Every sister elbow another sister and say, ‘He should have listened.’ Every brother tap another brother and say, ‘I should have listened to her.” he said back then. “Old saints, y’all forgive me, but I gotta tell you. These hoes ain’t loyal!”
Bryant later slammed “self righteous saints” for criticizing his message about “hoes,” explaining, “I pastor incredible women, none of whom are hoes. I am the father of daughters, none of whom I want to see raised as hoes. My mother is an incredible mother who’s not a hoe. My sister is an incredible woman who is not a hoe. So I think we’ve got to stop internalizing self-hate.”
Looks like Bryant should have been listening to his own message.
