‘I’m Not the Next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I’m the 1st Simone Biles’
Simone Biles proved that she’s the best gymnast out there when she took home the gold medal in the all-around competition Thursday in Rio.
Biles was flawless on vault. Dynamic on the beam. And her floor routine was jaw-dropping on floor.
“It doesn’t even feel real,” Biles said. “To me I’m just the same Simone … But I feel the same. I just feel like I did my job tonight.”
Biles became the fourth consecutive American woman to capture the all-around and fifth overall. She and Raisman joined Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson in 2008 as the only U.S. gymnasts to win gold and silver in the same Olympic final.
Biles also made it a point secure her legacy and stand out above other Olympians.
“I’ve finally done it. It’s so exciting,” Biles said after her medal ceremony in Rio. “You never know the feeling until it hits you.”
“I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I’m the first Simone Biles,” she said.
“The floor was my best moment. I’m excited for the other finals now,” she said. “I had to remind myself to keep doing the routines we practiced. I’m so relieved.”
But she’s not done yet. Biles has individuals and could bring home 3 other medals!
