Sasheer Zamata is leaving Saturday Night Live.
Zamata, 31, joined the cast of “SNL” during its 38th season in 2014, after the show was criticized for its major lack of diversity. In response to the criticism, “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels vowed to bring on a black woman by January 2014. Zamata was the first black woman to be cast on “SNL” since Maya Rudolph’s exit in 2007.
Over the course of her four seasons on SNL, Zamata has hilariously played characters and celebrity impersonations such as of Lupita Nyong’o, Rihanna, Michelle Obama, Beyoncé and many others.
According to Deadline, Zamata has also appeared on TBS’s People of Earth, Amazon’s Transparent, Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer and Netflix’s Bojack Horseman, and her comedy special Sasheer Zamata: Pizza Mind debuted in March on SeeSo. Features include Sleight, Yoga Hosers and Deidra & Laney Rob a Train, among others. Upcoming is The Outdoorsman.
Zamata posted on Instagram Sunday morning following her final appearance on the show.
