Natural Hair Online Support Groups

Monday Apr 13, 2009 – By Laquita Thomas-Banks

84782861Through a simple online search you will come across natural hair community sites, forums, personal blogs and natural hair albums within Fotki and Flickr. You can find natural hair groups on Yahoo! and MySpace as well as Twitter, and Facebook. By doing a search on these sites for ‘natural hair’ or entering in specific names of some of your favorites, you can even have natural hair support via cell phone.

One of my favorite Facebook profiles is Tassanee ‘Happynappyt’ Walden. When you log on to her profile and see the natural hair information, which includes pictures, product reviews, hair challenges and links to other natural hair sites, you will feel like you stepped into a natural hair community site. Through the Internet you will find sites that are solely dedicated to natural hair, as well as inclusive sites that cater to all who are in search of healthy hair advice.

These sites are a great help for those who are either thinking about transitioning, in the transitioning process or who are already a part of the natural journey. Afrobella: (afrobella.com) is another favorite that features beauty, natural hair care, skin care, makeup advice, and more. Also check out Kinnks: (kinnks.com/directory) – a worldwide online directory of natural hair links.

What are your favorites?

Thanks for sharing! I’m a member of Black Hair Media. I had no idea so many other sites existed! I have been natural for 2 years and I love it! I decided to go natural due to the fact that I am in the military and trying to keep up with a roller set was wearing me down! Now I mainly rock wigs/lacefronts when i’m working and i’ll wear my natural hair on the weekends. I must say that I have fallen in love with lacefront wigs…they allow u to have a perm style without having a perm. I have the freedom to wear any style. It’s great!

Thanks to the author for the list of great natural hair sites. While there are so many sites too numerous to place on the list; the reader also gave readers the opportunity to list their favorites! How cool is that!

Given the authors’ list and those shared by the readers, we should come up with an awesome list of natural hair sites to support, share, and has access to a wealth of information.

    Another great article!

This was a great piece. I truly wish it was available when I went natural in 2002. I was lucky enough to find Nappturality, Motown Girl and Long Hair Care Forum. I remember when I was obsessed with my new growth…lol and my Fotki album. Looking at other sista’s Fotki albums truly got me through. Believe it or not – I went from 12inches to 1 inch and all I can say it made me love myself even more.

It’s dope that all the new and emerging blogs and sites are popping up cause you def need some support when you are natural. It’s not as easy as one would think – for me it was WAY harder than styling my hair with a perm. And I am not saying it’s bad, but for me it was the first time I had ever dealt with my natural texture and it was something I had to learn and practice and the support that each of these sites give is so needed.

    I truly heart Nappturality!

  31. Samantha Samantha says:

I think mysalonscoop.com is a cute website. I love the design. It doesn’t look cheap and looks well thought out and put together which will keep me coming back. I think it’s a brilliant idea to be able to get the inside scoop on some of these crazy salons. I have definitely had my share of scary experiences. I have been natural for almost 4 years and I have been to more people who said they can do natural hair and couldn’t than people who could actually do my hair and was trying to help me keep it on my head.

My favorite website is motowngirl.com. I have made most of the recipes from that website and my hair has loved me for it. I have researched and found plenty of websites that have great recipes for natural deep conditioners, leave-in conditioners, etc. I love shea butter and the recipe that I found for my moisturizer to help my hair healthy and growing.

Happy Researching! And enjoy your beautiful, Natural hair!

  32. Shari Shari says:

Needless to say I never touched Dr Miracles after all the great products I learnt about from these sites. LHCF was actually my inspiration for starting the Fab Hair Project social network. Love that community.
