Artikal hats by designer/founder Holly Slayton-Chance are too cute to be relegated to bad hair day cover- up duty. These sassy toppers will instantly up the “fab” quotient of any fall wardrobe, not to mention they’ll give you a reason to get all dressed up. The D.C native has always been inspired to create having grown up with a grandmother who was an award winning dressmaker and a mother with a entrepreneurial and crafts background. Holly explored her creative spirit by venturing in everything from cosmetology to fashion merchandising. “As a teenager I was always making jewelry and sewing. In high school I was passionate about couture and beauty. I loved being able to make people beautiful. I loved the craft and skill involved but I felt something was missing.” Eventually she taught herself to crochet and discovered her true passion. What started with a crochet tam made for a college roommate has turned into a complete hat line that includes custom caps for men and women. Chance uses velour and hand woven panama straw for her smartly designed custom creations. “Unlike other hat designers who outsource their hats, my line is all handcrafted.” States Chance, “All are handmade in NYC and I do custom hats to match any outfit.”

This fall Artikal will be rolling out vintage inspired cloches with hand beading and contrast detailing, along with 60’s style caps and fedoras in velour. The entire collection is available online at www.artikal.com

Tips On Picking The Right hat:

Start with the right face shape. “Some styles look better with certain face shapes.” Chance explains.
Concerning size: “You should be able to fit one finger under the sweatband of the hat. Otherwise it’s going to give you a headache.”
How to rock it: “PLEASE don’t try to pull a dress hat or Fedora down over your ears!” begs Chance, “Caps, dress hats, and most any style hat except knits don’t get pulled down that far. They’re supposed to just rest on your head. Sometimes toward the front of your head with a tilt, if you really wanna rock it.”
