i'm 28...not old...not young....from what i can gather from being around men my entire life...the biggest complaint is black women not allowing a man to be "the man"...black women like being in control and do not like to submit to anything or anyone...which is why they lag behind in marriage...i could get with a 30 white woman who makes 100,000...i'm a law student...and she would still let me feel like i'm in control...i'm "the man"....i haven't heard about this with black women until they get much older...then the desperation sets in and they suppress urge to control cause the fear of loneliness is stronger...just my opinion...and i don't want to hear that i'm weak crap..i've been with the same black woman for 5 years....just giving my honest opinion

Yeah, well I've been with the same girl since 2000, and after seven years, I'm still getting cold feet about marriage. The idea that marriage is FOREVER and two people are expected to live up to that is laughable. Don't reference folks in the from the past either, like your parents or grandparents, becuase back then, divorce was less acceptable, so they more than likely "tolerated" each other. I don't want to give up my freedom--and that IS a valid excuse. Better still, I'd get married, but it'd be a 5 year contract. . .if we like how it's going, we can re-up, if not, both partners leave with what they came in with. Needless to say, Keesha isn't too happy with me right now, but I feel like marriage represents prison, or a caged lion. . .

To piggyback what jerseybred said; Most of their reasons when it comes to fear and trust are definitely in line w/ mine. This is a good article and it was good to read and learn the perspective of some men when the fear of marriage is the subject matter.

Yeah great article, I was the stong black women doing things on my own like my mother and father taught me to. Until, I met my husband it did take a minute or two to let my guard down and let him be the man but now I enjoy not having all that responsibility on my hands. I met in him NYC after moving there for three years. He is NYC breed and his three younger brothers. Every girl I knew that was from Ny couldn't believe that an outa state girl snagged a good one. But what they didn't know was that I wasn't even looking for one, I was trying to improve on me, live life and get closer to God and that drew my husband to me.
