Nancy, this was wonderful to read. Your daughters sound as though they have been reared up well. Kudos to you for all of your hard-work, love, and attentiveness. Thanks for reading too.

HI~ My name is Nancy and I have raised my twin daughters (they turned 17 today!) on my own all of their lives. I divorced their father when they were 8 months old. People just don't understand how hard it is to raised children on your own. I was almost 35 when they were born and although it has been a constant struggle, I wouldn't trade them for the world! Leslie and Leah are truly great young women, hard-working students and loving daughters.

I'm exceedingly appreciative, that someone notice, and understands the hardship, of raising children alone.
This particular issue appears to be increasing, and needs to be address during this election, why?
When young or old parents have to work two or more jobs, leaving children alone at home to defend for themselves, cook for themselves, and etc. it can be difficult. Anyway, great article, please continue to speak and stand for those who need your help.

Thanks for the salute. I am a single mom and entrepreneur. I hold down the daily task of raising a little manchild of 9 years old. I really wouldn't trade it in for anything, even when I have "those days". However unlike Tanya G. I let my son know what's going on financially. I want him to understand the sacrifices being made to send him to private school, to respect his clothes and video games because they are not free. That being said I think it is necessary regardless of the home structure, can't say it always works, lol. My biggest struggle is balance. I am growing two babies at the same time, my son and the business. I am juggling baseball games, school events, etc. with meetings and events. It's not easy but it keeps me going. Shout out to all the other single parents out there!!!

Danielle & Tiffany; my mother was single for a short time (close to two years) and she managed to work 12-hour shifts and still be available for us when we needed her. I was much younger then but the oldest and those times were a bit different. It is good to see others who admire and appreciate single parents (those who want what's best for their young and strive for that).

I was raised in a single parent home, and I must say, I never seen my mother crack under pressure. That lady is strong as a mule. There were days I felt she was a bit hard on me, now at the age of twenty four, I realize she was just simply raising a lady and she did what she had to do to keep from being a statistic. I am so proud of the young lady that I am. I owe it all to her and God he gave her the strength, and she gave me the guidence. I'm proud of her!
