Wonderful article! You may consider interviewing Taalam Acey (the last video - "Market for Ni$$as) next month. His recent CD (Market 4 Change) is a double disc, one deals with socio political themes and the other is strictly love & erotic poems - perfect for Black History Month and Valentine's Day!!
Keep up the great work Clutch!!

He totally lost me when he said black women have Cosmo to discuss their viewpoint. I can hardly imagine a black woman that felt more attached to black woman's issues, like say the woman from the NO! documentary getting community wide approval. But hey that's the way the Black cookie crumbles.

i really can't believe this guy wants to deny sexist behavoir was something foisted upon the black community and something that black men don't intrinsically participate in and benefit from. he needs to examine the video "ho" phenomenon, why black women can't be out past a certain hour in their own neighborhoods, and the consistent domestic abuse problem we have in the black community. if black men are more disenfranchised, then why do they still get paid more than a black woman would for doing the same job? black women don't have it any easier on a myriad of fronts and believe it or not have to contend with sexism (from black men as well) as well as racism in this society. looking through the myopic lens of your own personal experiences and not much else is not going to erase the fact that black community has to internally deal with a lot of -isms, such as classism, sexism, and colorism. whether they were forced upon us or not is conjecture, we need to acknowledge and rectify these issues.
