As someone who is associated with the musical industry and who is acquainted with Rissi Palmer, it's well know within the industry that Rissi and her management placed her in country music not because of any extraordinary country connections that she has as a singer, but because of her skin color. Her average appearance and vocal abilities were not competent enough to compete with the R&B and Soul singers who are upcoming or already established in the genre. Rissi Palmer would not have stood a chance and knew this, so she decided to market her as the first black female country singer. Her management thought it was a clever and untried angle that might work. The R&B, Soul and Pop world wouldn’t have given her look or singing the time of the day, but her advisors knew they could garner interviews by talking about how ‘hard” it is for her to break into a music field that is predominately white. Read Rissi’s interviews and notice how in all of them she brings up instances of country music executives loving her demos but changing their minds once they meet her and see that she’s black. This is one reason why her career never took off, true country fans can tell when singers have the love of country in their heart and Rissi Palmer doesn’t.

I am grateful for your thorough an dwell rounded interview of Rissi Palmer. It extracted some very great responses from her and her genuine penness made the interview easier, I'm sure. Rissi's music has a purity and freshness that is rare and I am so proud of who she has shown herself to be throughout her career: intelligent, warm, talented, and classy. She's not teeny bopper dressed like a hussy just to sell records. She is a true artist who is serious about her craft. Thank you again for sharing this interview with us.

Not much of a country fan but I like her, I loved her show Rissi Palmer's Country of the travel Channel (go over there and support it). She has a nice sound and seems a lovely person inside and out.

Rissi, just pretty much spent about 4 hours on sites relating to your music, mostly your website, the "Loaded Questions," and your blog-journal! It's been such a refreshing 4 hours. I'm in the midst of exams now (ugh), so the same songs have been replaying the entire time :) -- what a study break. Anyways, onwards. I just wanted to say that your music is awesome. I used to hear to country music only when I hung out with my dad. It was as though I could only explore that side of artistic expression when I got to visit him, which was about once a year. Before my folks were divorced, I thought it was so funny that my dad, who is black, liked country music, but it's one of the best memories I have of him, along with listening to NPR and classical music whenever he picked me up from school :) Saying/writing this to say/write that you're great, funny, smart, and beautiful (yay for gorgeous ancestors), so keep doing what you're doing! I'm gonna get your CD for my Dad!!! Cheers, Avalon.

Thank you for sharing this interview online with another Rissi fan – me!
Your interview covered a lot of angles and gave us insights into Rissi’s thoughts and plans and we learned of her many musicial influences, too. Great job!
She obviously has such a deep well of talent and tunes to share and I hope she gains momentum quickly with the country music fans! Your help along these lines is truly appreciated by this mostly country fan!

Only thing I’d say about any of the writer’s thoughts in this review of Rissi’s review is that it is Not country western music. I’d say Nashville has dropped the ‘western’ part. (Even though they might mostly wear western boots and hats.) It sounds very old-fashioned to my ears..and I am a granny. ;)
The western states of Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and others in that area of our nation have their own types of music and that’s where the ‘western’ influence really hangs their hats. Country Western music (in my mind) covers tunes like the group Riders in the Sky sing,,, or an old Gene Autry or Roy Rogers’ song would also conjure up ‘that feeling’ of having heard Country and Western music.

I felt blessed to be there at the Opry when Rissi debuted AND was so excited as she was introduced by her favorite country male singer, Vince Gill! I started ‘rockin’ with her rhythm that nite ‘early’ into her first song “Country Girl” and I do think I influenced a small bunch of fans to enjoy themselves outwardly, too! ;) I was happy that later I could share the best photo of the few I took of her with her indirectly through one of her reps who replied that Rissi thanked me, too.

I also picked up her album the clerk in the Opry gift shop had there saved for me that evening! I had to have it in my hands before the first show!
