I had the pleasure of reading Harlem Renasaince writer Nella Larsen's "Passing" and it was haunting, entertainging and an all around well crafted book. I did attempt to read Push by diva griot Sapphire and had no idea what the heck I was in for and I just had to put it down because it was too too raw and damn near scared me to death.....however, I will pick it up again and soldier my way through because as grimy and gripping as it is, I could tell that this was a story about redemption and I so pro redemption. As a Latina that speak a speck of spanish, I will pick up Mama's Girl by Veronica Chambers who is one of literatures most prolific and gifted writers. Clutch I so love y'all!!!

Okay, I am thankful for this list because I knew nothing of "A Mercy" by Toni Morrison and I see I am going to have to get up on Sherry Argov. Thanks you guys!

I haven't read it in a while either, but The Bluest Eye made me cry. I need to pick up PUSH once and for all. Oh, and if you liked Quicksand, I recommend Gayl Jones's Corregidora (it may be out of print). And this may not need mentioning, but what about Their Eyes Were Watching God?

i haven't read white oleandar but i saw the movie. it's worth a read. i just finished reading the brief wondrous life of oscar wao and it was amazing. definitely worthy of the pulitzer. push has been on my fav list for a long time and i can't wait to see it on film. mama's girl by veronica chambers paralleled some of my own experiences as a first generation american of panamanian descent living in new york and not speaking spanish (to the dismay of my older relatives). i haven't read the bluest eye in years but i still remember how it touched me.

It is good to see the novels Quicksand and Passing by Nella Larsen on this list. I don't know if I ever would have picked either of these books up outside of college, but Quicksand is one of my favorite books.
