Kimora Lee Simmons, Djimon Hounsou Have Baby Boy
It’s a boy for former fashion model Kimora Lee Simmons and actor Djimon (JAI’-mon) Hounsou (Hahn-SOO’). Simmons announced the birth Saturday on her Twitter feed. A representative for Simmons says both she and her newborn son are doing great. No further details were immediately available. The 34-year-old Simmons has two daughters with 51-year-old hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, whom she divorced in 2008 after seven years of marriage. Kimora Lee Simmons is CEO of Phat Fashions, a clothing design company that her ex-husband founded. (Continue Reading…)
Darfuri Women Live ‘Nightmare,’ Harvard-Backed Study Says An American human rights group documenting widespread sexual violence against Darfuri women in Sudan and Chad has called for “vigorous prosecution of rape as a war crime.” Physicians for Human Rights, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, issued a report Sunday “documenting the scope and long-term impact of rape and other sexual violence” experienced by women who fled the war-torn Sudanese region of Darfur and now live as refugees in neighboring Chad. The report — titled “Nowhere To Turn: Failure To Protect, Support and Assure Justice for Darfuri Women” — is based on interviews with 88 female refugees living in Chad’s Farchana refugee camp. The study was done with the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. (Continue Reading…)
Rep. Charles Rangel Suggests Even Obama Not Safe in Harlem
President Obama better watch his back if he’s walking around Harlem without identification, Rep. Charles Rangel said. Rangel issued the warning after the Daily News asked what President Obama should do during his visit to New York. “Make certain he doesn’t run around in East Harlem unidentified,” Rangel cracked in a snide aside Saturday. The powerful Democrat was making a reference to the fatal shooting Thursday night of Omar Edwards, an off-duty cop. He was shot on E. 125th St. by Officer Andrew Dunton, who was on duty and in plainclothes.(Continue Reading…)
