There are many reasons why Thomas shouldn't be on the bench (ideology being the main one; internalized racism being the second) but to say that he wasn't a strong legal thinker is a bit much. Thomas has always been extremely bright, even if he is misguided. To compliment Scalia on his intellect but then to take a swipe like that at Thomas seems a bit unfair.
