I sort of agree with Jason Whitlock. First of all, the majority of us (black people) have glamorized the hop hop life. We have made it seem that that is the norm. Our children, the ones growing up in urban areas, all want to be rappers and athletes. That's because they think that's their only way out. They see the money, the jewelry, the cars, and the women, and they want that, who can blame them. There are no Cosby shows to depict Black Americans, doing other things, like beign Doctors and Lawyers. Hip Hop is the voice of this generation. Hip hop is the most popular genre of music.

Now when we say that there are others making positive music, go to the billboard top 10, and count how many are on there. Check the record sales, see who's in the top 10. SO even though people make positive music, that is not what we hear, that's not the videos that we see. Overwellmingly , the numbers of videos are the ones degrading women, glorifying money, drugs, prison, and everything else. So it is true that we should blame hip-hop for a having a roll, in the genocide of the black man, the black woman, the black child, and the black family.

And yes I said black because hip hop reaches every black person, from Canada to the Caribbean, to Europe and to Africa. And it has an influence.

Precisely that, what is deamed as hip hop by the masses, in a commercial sense is generally just that commercial- made to sell therefore has the loudest profile and voice.
The true voice of hip hop - the heartbeat of the music, the message it conveys, and the essence that inspires it, that is sooo eloquently put on vinyl/wax( or whatever the silver discs are made of) by artists such as Common, Erykah,Mos Def, The Roots, Pharcyde, Dead Prez,Fugees, Outkaste etc... will as usual be the unspoken/unheard heroes in this revolution. The revolution will not be televised- work it out for yourself.
