Oprah appears to be going through something. Her charisma and magnatism is still present, but she’s distanced herself.
Alot of her shows are just full of it. Mike Tyson was one of them. Isn’t it apparent to everyone that this guy is really f#@*ed up?!? That he’s capable of hurting people-especially women!
Brava Robin. African-American women and other women of color still can not fully embrace and accept the fact that we have a nice strong rank in domestic violence. Too political. Too much self-hatred.Too much violence in general. Too much denial.

I just don’t understand why Oprah would even interview him….

  3. Dionne Dionne says:

As a journalist, I totally understand why Oprah interviewed him. And after watching it I thought he was terribly honest and a little off. But I think he’s always been that way — too open and a bit childlike. I do believe that everyone has a story and Mike Tyson is no acception. I also feel that Robin has talked a lot about their relationship, while he has been pretty much silent.

This season Oprah seems to be focusing on the theme of redemption, and this was his chance. Did it help with some of the comments he made, no. But I’m also glad that Robin Givens also was able to make a rebuttal. I remember being a young child and looking at the Barbara Walters interview and even then being appalled of how Robin treated Mike like a child and that he just sat there. I think that many of the audience members laughed when he said at that moment he wanted to sock her because they were also appalled on how the interview unwrapped.

  4. Debra M. Debra M. says:

Abuse is a very SERIOUS issue and Mike Tyson has problems that definitely need to be discussed–in a therapists office and not on Oprah’s couch. As women we haven’t been given enough support, knowledge or training on how to be aware of the signs of abuse, so when women find themselves in this situation they are left to figure out how to deal with it. Men also haven’t been given counsel either and in a society that glorifies male dominance this is what we get.

One thing that definitely has to change is that women need to support each other. Robin was absolutely right. Oprah was right, she should have been more aware in the moment, having seen personally what abuse can do to a person. I am happy she had the awareness and took steps to correct it because with journalism comes responsibility and sensitivity. As women we have to stop making excuses for men who are abusive. They have problems that need to be addressed professionally and we are not qualified to reason away their behavior. I don’t want to go on and on because I know what abuse looks like up close, I saw my mom abused many times so it is an issue that I feel strongly about. Lets support each other as women, if we form a bond it will provide an effective shield against abuse.

  5. Forever Forever says:

You tried to cut Tyson down with words and he cut you down with his fist. A man doesn’t attack his own wife unless she been ill-treating him for some time. Everybody got feelings. Why think you can hurt someone’s feelings with no repercussions? You’re the one who’s an animal. You antagonized the man and got him going all ballistic thinking you can sue him for a big payday. You saw Tyson as a money opportunity and nothing more. Loser. Long live the great Mike Tyson.

  6. Forever Forever says:

Women are just as abusive as men. They like to play the victim cause they don’t have the muscular mass to take down a man with a punch. But many women abuse men verbally and when the fighting begins they stab a man with a knife or shoot him with a gun, or kiss and make up to deceive the man and poison him to death. Many vicious women are getting away with murder. Many are now killing other women to steal their unborn child straight from the womb! Yes, every human being have aggression built into them. Oprah when you gonna stop interviewing abusive women such as Robin Givens? You owe Tyson an apology.

  7. thandiwe dee thandiwe dee says:

Though I heard about the Tyson interview and the follow up with Hollyfield, I didn’t see it. I think that Oprah’s apology is a terrific example of what we all need to be able to do when we recognize that some action of ours caused harm that is not our desire, which is not the same as causing distress necessarily. When dealing with issues of vulnerability or trauma, we need to be especially sensitive, but we are all human and even when we are trying to be conscious we still slip up.

I have to say that my feelings for Tyson softened quite a bit after seeing the film about him. He is still a scary guy to me, but when you know more about what he has come through, you can have some compassion for him. As for Robin being a mercenary, I can’t say, and I certainly agree that women do abuse men, and maybe she did verbally abuse him, but in no way does that justify his physical violence. Is there a man in the audience who’d want to take him on physically? I think not.

Poor Robin!! she must be in debt….still trying to juice the situation… She wasn’t a walk in the park for Mike….She abused him to….

    • Loquacious_ Loquacious_ says:

Agree with you 100%. Robin was not then and I am sure is not now an innocent angel. However, she is an opportunist. Oprah needs to get that testicular fortitude back. What was there to apologize for? Nada!

  9. bronson bronson says:

I Think Robin Givens is a great actress, pity that she doesnt get to do more in movies, I believe that she is a first class manipulator of people, including Oprah, No sensible, moral person can condone abuse of any kind, be it abuse of women, children and yes even men.Robin Givens was married to Tyson for only a year or so,during which time she milked it for all the publicity and money she could, it shocks and amazes me that she is a spokes person for abused women(does she get payed for her work?) she talks as if she was beaten and abused for years, yet she herself was abusive verbally and phsically towards Tyson and played the man,her mother guided her as well, i dont think oprah should have apologised to Givens, as she is only conducting a interview and would not have been proffesional to judge Tyson.Unfortunately the vast majority of Americans are sucked in by Robin Givens lies…Tyson is no angel, but he told the truth and accepted the consequences of his relationship with Givens, something she is yet to do.I believe Oprah knew she was lying and trying to manipulate her to
