Republican Tom Delay Believes Americans Want to be Unemployed

Tuesday Mar 9, 2010 – By Black Voices

If I were President Barack Obama, I would be break dancing in the Oval Office. Former Republican House Majority Leader Tom Delay applauded the actions of his Republican colleague Jim Bunning, who chose to block the extension of unemployment benefits for millions of Americans. In his comments, Delay effectively argued that Americans want to be unemployed, because having unemployment benefits gives them no incentive to go out and look for a job.

Yes, I was stunned to hear these words. But then again, perhaps Delay has decided to officially marginalize himself and say all the things he wanted to say when he actually had a position of relevance within the federal government. Instead, he has allowed us to peek in to the minds of his colleagues, who are probably thinking the same way. Here are Delay’s words based on his interview with Candy Crowley:

You know,” Delay said, “there is an argument to be made that these extensions, the unemployment benefits keeps people from going and finding jobs. In fact, there are some studies that have been done that show people stay on unemployment compensation and they don’t look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out.”

Host Candy Crowley: Congressman, that’s a hard sell, isn’t it?

Tom Delay: It’s the truth.

Crowley: People are unemployed because they want to be?

Delay: Well, it is the truth and people in the real world know it. And they have friends and they know it. Sure, we ought to be helping people that are unemployed find a job, but we also have budget considerations that are incredibly important, especially now that Obama is spending monies that we don’t have.

Delay is not in the real world.
He is the fool that came up with CAFTA to send even more U.S. jobs south of the border. Delay has sold the American people down the river.

There seems to be a trend on popular black blogs in which people are advertising interracial or gold-digging social networking sites. What is that about. It’s very annoying.

      Hi Daphne!

Yes! Someone continues to come to Clutch daily and spams us with those comments. We usually catch them and delete – but sometimes we miss them. And – we agree it’s VERY annoying. We wonder why they keep coming back – cause as soon as we spot them we delete.

      Thanks for your comment :)

Of course Delay’s party affiliation is placed prominently in the subject line–as though his politics are deeply entwined with his personal beliefs…

i think delay is right on target on this issue. anybody that has been on unemployment knows it doesnt come close to paying the bills but as long as the gov is giving handouts people are gonna take them. heathcare and bailouts, just to start with, encourage people to be irresponsible. AND ITS OUR MONEY! eventually people are just gonna stay home cuz by the time they get whats left of their paychecks, theres nothing left to live on. theres not enuf to put gas in the car to get to work again. 10%+ of the population is already at that point and getting paid to stay there.
this administration is DESTROYING the American initiative, capitalism and free market enterprise. obama et al is rewriting the Constitution of the United States and creating a socialist nation, unchecked a communist nation.
more subsidies creates a climate that breeds more subsidies and higher taxes. the unemployed and uninsured will perpetuate this climate by voting for more gov handouts instead of taking personal responsibility for their own lives. the left wing is emasculating our country and turning society into dependent children with no voice and no power.
this is not how our nation was built. this is how nations are destroyed. history has proven this as unequivocal fact.
