Here they go again…..
When Beth Humphrey and Terrence McKay went to the justice of the peace to tie the knot, they were greeted with a misfortunate reality check: “Justice” Keith Bardwell refused to marry them because they are an interracial couple. According to that guy:
“I’m not a racist. I just don’t believe in mixing the races that way,” Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. “I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.”
First off, the qualifier: “I have lots of Black friends,” ought to be replaced with “I’m a bona fide racist who’s just to much of a coward to admit it.” In this case, Bardwell has chosen to break the law due to his self-imposed, limited mental capacity.
Racism is a rare but highly contagious mental illness and Bardwell proves his mental deficiency by jeopardizing his lengthy career by breaking the law set forth by the landmark Loving trial. As an officer of the law, he was completely aware that by refusing to marry the interracial pair, was completely illegal.
It appears as though Bardwell will drown in a pool of stagnation. He was even reported as saying “I try to treat everyone equally” (in other words, he spreads his racist idiocy in a uniformed fashion). We wonder if he’ll sing the same tune once the ACLU gets hold of him. According to the Huffington Post, The ACLU sent a letter to the Louisiana Judiciary Committee, which oversees the state justices of the peace, asking them to investigate Bardwell and recommending “the most severe sanctions available, because such blatant bigotry poses a substantial threat of serious harm to the administration of justice.” That’s right, it’s about to be on now.
Ironically enough, this foolery took place in the same time frame as prominent Brooklyn politician Bill de Blasio proudly displayed his interracial family while campaigning for New York City Public Advocate. De Blasio’s wife of 15 years is a Black woman, and together they have 2 children.
Regarding this particular sign of progress, Peggy Pascoe, a historian of interracial marriage at the University of Oregon stated, “For so long in American history, interracial couples went out of their way to keep their relationships out of the public eye that it’s remarkable to see them used in a campaign like this.”
Perhaps someone should alert Keith Bardwell of such things. In his narrow view, “There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage,” Bardwell said. “I think those children suffer and I won’t help put them through it.” Yeah, interracial/multi-racial kids are just hopeless by nature. It’s not like they could ever aspire to be president of the United States or something.

Absolute Bullsh*t.
I read about this the other day. I would like to say I was surprised, but unfortunately I have no illusions that despite the year in which we live and the man currently in the White House, racism is alive and well.
The last two sentences were a hilarious and on point way to end this.
Why does he still have a job?
“I’m not a racist. I just don’t believe in mixing the races that way.”
Can someone tell the judge that’s the meaning of being a racist?
And when you have to point out that you’re not a racist or that you have black friends, that usually means you’re a racist!
WOW. It’s disgusting that he used his position and power to shut down a couple in love wanting to get married.. like they needed this to taint their moment. And how the hell does saying he allows black people to use his bathroom? (wtf?) support his stance he’s not a racist? I can’t wait until the ACLU, judiciary committee and the media get a hold of him and his job.
Without interracial relationships/marriages, the world would not have the beauty that is Boris Kodjoe and I would be a sad women. :)
Ah!! I love the last sentence! Brilliant!
omg it’s not like they can’t marry elsewhere. People don’t want gays to marry, and black people were a big part of prop8 being passed so if you ask me this is just karma. So when gays can marry, that’s when i’ll go out and trip over interracials being denied marriage. As for now, just chill out. Interracials can marry any day of the week, any day of the year. Adults are so immature when it comes to race, I swear. None of the other denied couples made a hoopla about it, they just got married elsewhere.
i’m not against interracial daters or anything like that, we just have more to worry about, like healing the black community, stopping the violence, educating us students, bringing out more positive black role models instead of being assimilationists.
LOL @ the last bit though, so hilarious!
btw, i’m black, straight and not racist.
I searched on Fox News to get a perspective on what conservatives are saying about this interracial marriage flap.
Nothing!!
One article on the subject taken from the associated press…with no viewer comments allowed
Compare that to the pages and pages of articles and thousands of comments on a Fox News search of “Obama, Nobel Prize”
Seems like the conservatives are keeping a low profile on this one…and keeping their readers from making comments on it that might reveal their “racial opinions” on this.
I guess Fox is hoping this blows away quickly before some of their readers start throwing their support to the justice of the Peace.
Clara, its wrong no matter who is involved (as long as its not a child). Plus you can’t blame one race for Prop 8. Seriously how are you to know the race of people who voted? Did you take a survey?
