Why the Hate: Mickey D’s ‘Black’ Site Cruxified

Conservatives, neocons and down right racists are mercilessly criticizing McDonald’s decision to launch a web site celebrating African-Americans.

The site, 365black.com, has launched recently and has had to endure threats, taunts and cruel jokes akin to having no ketchup with your fries.

For its part, 365.black.com has this to say about its purpose:

Fox Nation, an opinion site started by Fox News earlier this year, has had a field day chastising the McDonald’s Corporation about 365black.com, a site many commenters call “racist” and blatant race-mongering.

365white-copy Many share the sentiment that if the fast-food restaurant had started a site called 365White that there would be a rigorous debate complete with rallies and marches.

So vitriolic has the issue become, that at least one web site has sprung up targeting McDonald’s for a boycott.

It goes without saying that McDonald’s has made a fortune in the black community. It also seems to be common knowledge that for years the eatery – along with a few similar others — was the only “real job” that would employ persons of color in heavily African-American areas. Stands to reason that some of these employees have risen in the ranks, now to the point where they can make important decisions about ways to market and promote the McDonald’s name and product.

It is fairly possible that this 365black.com has born itself from those humble beginnings.

But there is also a dissenting point of view, one that says that the web site is just the latest way a multi-billion-dollar corporation is leaching off black people.

Either way, the hate from the conservative right-wingers seems out of pocket.

SOME White people can be so stupid sometimes. There is white history every day of the year. I don’t know why they can’t just be able to be OK WITH other races celebrating their heritage. I think McDonald’s should pull all ads from Fox. They are just hateful for no damn reason. And the Comments about the site make me wanna throw up.

FOX news has been and continues to be a biased, racist, and (least offensive) conservative news organization. I am almost suprised they allowed these post to go up and remain on their website. Notice I said almost. I have stopped watching FOX news, not unless I want a good laugh. Many of their news highlights are overtly racist. I’m suprised they consider themselves a real news show with the biased opions they convey. I’d rather compare FOX news to the DAILY Show or Colbert report..just on the opposite side.I’m not a fan of Mcdonalds, (except late at night when I’m craving some fries and an ice cream sundae topped with hot fudge and chopped peanuts) but I applaud McDonalds for making the 365Black website. It’s about time. DANG, can we get some shine?!White folks have been shining since the inception of the United States and still continue to. Thank You McDonalds for recognizing achievements in the Black Community. FOX news are no more than some haters of anything outside of their right (as in conservative but many times WRONG), white, racist comfort zone.

Hate to say it but that website seems like a joke. I know this will anger people. The website is one big ad. Leaves a yucky feeling in my stomach just like their fish fillet.

I’m not surprised the by Fox comments. I mean it is Fox and they’re known for their blantant in-your-face racism. It’s best just to ignore them though the comments are an annoyance.

I hope something positive comes from this site. I would love to see healthy recipes posted instead of the deep fried “McNuggets Love”.

I don’t think this website is the best way to celebrate and promote the black community 365/24/7 but I guess it’s a start.

Forgot to add. Rather than have a 365black.com (or even the asian http://www.myinspirasian.com) why can’t there just be one website that Mc. D promotes to encourage youngsters to strive high…confused…

i wonder how many of these lame/racist comments (on the foxnation forum) are from adults? (i’m 19, lol)

The thing is, the CEO of mcdonalds is white. they should take it up with their “brother”. Seeing as population-wise etc most “other” races are “marginalized” groups, companies believe that they have to cater to them a little more. they assume white people already know. I hate it. If they play one MORE commercials with fake @ss hip hop music and expect me to rush to get a big mac, i’ll puke.

i live in texas, so the Latino-versions also exist in LARGE quantities. While i guess these companies are trying to let these communities know “they recognize them” it’s really a waste of money in my opinion. just have people of ALL RACES be featured in their commercials!!!! it’s not that hard!

and to be fair, ONLY THE RACIST/IGNORANT COMMENTS WERE SELECTED BY THE DAILY KOS. a lot of people said very educated things.

Well…arrogance and ignorance don’t mix well. If America taught black history as American history (as they should) some white people wouldn’t be so up in arm about black history 365 days a year. They would know that we (black and whites) built this country together from the beginning. How do they think the infrastructure for America was built? by themselves?

They can hate all they want but the facts are the facts and that’s why it’s so important to know history.

There is a channel called WET, it’s called NBC, ABC, Fox Network, CBS, MTV and VH1, there are more, but I simply don’t have the time.

Good post. 365Black is ridiculous. I think this is one of those things that we’re all going to look back on and say “I can’t believe they thought like that!”
