Solange Knowles opens her suitcase for a shoot with Refinery29 at New York’s Standard Hotel. Shot by Kava Gorna, the singer who recently celebrated her 24th birthday reveals her style inspirations, her love for shoes and the inspiration behind her upcoming album in stores this fall. Solange donns a collection of gorgeous looks, showing her mix of high-end and street style from a Boxing Kitten top, Urban Outfitter intimates and studded Louboutin oxfords. When asked who her style heroes are Solange shares, “My mom in the ’70s and ’80s! She was a bad bitch. ‘Sex and the City’ totally jacked her steez on the camels. I have a pic of her on a camel ride in Egypt in the ’80s serving the hell out of that desert! Also, Diana Ross, The Fela Kuti Queens, Björk, ’70s-era Chaka Khan, Chloë Sevigny, ’90s Erykah Badu.”
We heart these shots, showing a young artist, mother, daughter and sister coming into her very own one deejay set and afro tendril at a time. Go Solange!
