In recognition of National Coming Out Day–marked October 11–Black Voices spoke with esteemed author Terry McMillian’s ex-husband, Jonathan Plummer. McMillian’s former husband, who came out during his marriage to the How Stella Got Her Groove Back writer recently appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” with McMillian recounting his short marriage with the literary star.
Plummer shares, “I was young when I met Terry, my ex-wife, and now we can talk about the scenario and situation with me being 20 years old from a country where we don’t talk about sexuality or same-sex anything.” Plummer continues, “The norm is getting married, having kids, and living happily ever after.”
Now, the native Jamaican puts his wisdom to good use as the host of a new web series NoMoreDownLow.TV.
The show’s premiere webisode features comedienne Wanya Sykes, actor Wilson Cruz, and photographer Duane Cramer.
According to Plummer, NoMoreDownLow.TV will dispel the myths associated with the “Down Low” phenomenon.
Plummer tells BlackVoices, “I think it’s amazing and hopefully people will look at this as a very base of people struggling with their honestly and pick this day to be forthcoming with their family friends, boyfriend or girlfriend.”
NoMoreDownLow.TV airs monthly. Check out the first webisodes below!
