At least she gets points for originality.
According to sources, a potential juror on former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevch’s corruption trial says she has a very important appointment she can’t get out of- spending some time with Oprah.
The potential juror says she has four tickets to a May 10 taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Now, with the show in its farewell 25th season, the tickets are more valuable than ever. After waiting years on a waiting list for tickets to the show, the juror seems adamant about not getting chosen.
For some in the legal system, the excuse is just another antic. The judge overseeing the trial called the excuse, “a little over the top.”
But not everyone thinks, including Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar, who in defense of the potential juror’s excuse pointed out it was the farewell season of the show. Taking up for the Oprah fan, Schar said to the judge, “It’s the last year, Judge.”
The judge on the trial remained unmoved saying, “Everybody here knows that this juror will survive” without being able to attend the taping.
To be honest, I’m a little heartbroken for this woman. She probably leaped with joy when she got confirmation to be able to make it onto the show. Now, instead of being part of the audience for a great interview or favorite things giveaway, she’ll be sitting in court instead.
Should the potential juror be able to dodge selection to attend one of the last tapings of Oprah’s show? Tell us what you think!
