In a day and age of very talented stylists, it is difficult to pinpoint someone with amazing individual style who mixes her own beloved pieces with those that are seen on the runway. Shala Monroque is one of those choice women who really echoes the meaning of “style” and not fashion and inspires us all with her creative ensembles as well as her intensely creative lifestyle.
The St. Lucian beauty spends her time traveling the world as the editor-at-large of Pop Magazine, at museum openings as her art consultant position requires and at special dinners thrown by the world’s most popular designers. She now calls New York City her home, though she is only in the Big Apple for six months out of the year. Most inspirational is her work ethic, working her way from maître ‘d to one of the fashion and art worlds’ brightest stars.
Miuccia Prada is a close friend of Shala’s, thus her frequent wearing of the designer’s pieces. She really has set trends in fashion, wearing turbans before they exploded for Spring (along with style maven June Ambrose), calf-length skirts before ladylike was “in” and cat-eye sunglasses before the industry made everything retro. She shows us that you can work hard and play harder, doing both in style.
