As part of her tribute to her mother, Nina Simone’s daughter announced that she is launching a website honoring her life and legacy. Simone, (born Lisa Celeste Stroud) daughter of the jazz singer, says that Ninasimone.com will be a place that plays homage to her mother’s career and gift.

Ninasimone.com has been under construction for a year, but it was well worth the wait.  The site includes an archive of content sure to occupy fans of the singer for hours. In addition to a 24-7 streaming internet radio station of all Nina all the time, the site will also include hours of interviews, recordings and commentary from Nina’s contemporaries and those influenced by her work. Best of all? The site will feature previously unreleased songs sung by the jazz great.

Simone, says the site allows fans to see her mother in the way she viewed her:

“I didn’t even know who Nina Simone was until I was around 11 or 12 years old, then I was able to make the distinction that she was someone else to the world…As her only child, I have a unique vision compared to anyone else walking this earth. So a lot of what we’re bringing to the site is from my perspective. As with any great figure there are rumors, there’s gossip, there’s assumptions, and I can’t correct everything, but what I can do is make sure I have somewhere people can go to that they know when they hear something or see something that this is the truth and it’s not going to change.”

In addition to the new site, fans of Ms. Nina Simone have much to look forward to as the filming of her biopic gets off the ground. Speaking to Us Weekly, Mary J. Blige confirmed she will be staring as Nina and is currently working on the film, saying:

“I’m definitely still doing it and I’m in acting classes for it now. We start shooting at the end of the month!”

Those familiar with the film say it will co-star actor David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scotland, Raisin in the Sun) as Nina Simone’s assistant Clifton Henderson and centers around the ups and downs of their relationship.
