I confess, I’m a magazine junkie. My house is covered in back issues of Essence, Vibe, The Source, Glamour, Poets & Writers, Redbook, Bust, and Marie Claire just to name a few.

Aside from the fact that I adore words, there is nothing better than cracking open the pages of a glossy and diving into its articles, fashion spreads, and imagining my name next to the cover article.

When I was in elementary school, I’d feverishly cut out pictures from other magazines, glue together pages, write small stories, and create my own magazine. I’d share it with my friends and we’d giggle about creating our own rag one day. Even in high school, I continued making my own newsletter and sharing it with my girls. So my love for magazines runs deep.

However, with the rise of the Internet, online publications, blogs, and many traditional mags steadily increasing their digital presence, the entire industry is taking a hit in sales and some mags (i.e. my beloved Honey) have been forced to close.

With the economy still struggling to snap back, some people consider magazines a luxury they simply cannot or will not spend their cash on, while others (like myself) still squeeze out a little bit of cash for their favorites.

How about you, Clutchettes? Do you still buy magazines? Which ones are your favorites?

I love magazines! I really need to suscribe to the ones I buy, it would save me bookoos of money. But yes, I do indulge in good magazines when I can.

Something about the print, the smell and feel of the pages makes me smile. The intimacy of actually knowing you can go back anytime to find comfort in the articles is what appeals to me the most.

Essence, Marie Claire, Instyle, Real Simple, and Harper’s Bazzar are my top 5. I just started getting back into Ebony due to their recent revamp of the magazine, which looks great! Digital has nothing on the real thing. At least in my opinion.
