Even the Donald would have to admit this is some good business sense.

The Obama 2012 campaign is selling coffee mugs and t-shirts featuring President Obama’s birth certificate and the slogan “Made in the USA.” The merchandise mocks the so-called “birther movement,” a fringe group of individuals who have disputed the President’s place of birth.

Obama 2012 deputy campaign manager Julianna Smoot said in an e-mail Wednesday morning, “There’s really no way to make this stuff completely go away. The only thing we can do is laugh at it — and make sure as many other people as possible are in on the joke.” With that, she offered a “limited edition” Obama birth certificate mug to folks who contribute at least $15 to the campaign. One side of the mug has the long form certificate, the other a picture of Obama with the words “Made in the USA.”

In late April, the White House released a long form copy of the President’s birth certificate in response to short lived exploratory Presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s questioning of the President’s place of birth. The move squashed any doubt that the President was indeed born in Hawaii, is a citizen of the United States and eligible to be President. The “Made in the USA” gear reflects the smart humored approach the President and his team have taken to the birthers’ inflammatory accusations.

Last month, the President himself roasted Donald, the rest of the birthers and took the the media to task for inflaming a non-story to blot out more important stories. Now, using their “silliness” to raise funds for his reelection bid- it’s safe to say the President is having the last laugh.
