I know it’s been a while since we’ve heard any new material from Cassie, so let me backtrack a little here and get everyone up to speed.
1. Cassie is indeed still recording music and 2. She is planning to drop a new album at some point later on this year.
Though the model turned pop-star turned Diddy (I think the “Mr. Swag” week has passed)’s unconfirmed beau hasn’t dropped a new album since her self-titled debut in 2006, Cassie is getting ready to re-enter the music world. The CK One model and Carol’s Daughter’s spokesperson has been busy laying down tracks for her upcoming release, “Electro Love.”
As her work on her album wraps up, Cassie has been getting in front of the camera to build some buzz. Posing for a gorgeous feature in NYLON Magazine’s June/July Music issue, the star gave her best description of what listeners should expect from “Electro Love.”
In her interview with photographer Ysa Perez, Cassie said:
“It’s a cool blend of pop, hip-hop, and ska. It’s urban Gwen Stefani meets Aaliyah. I hate referencing people but if you had to compare, that’s it. ‘Lonely Disco Ball’ (favourite song) is about the end of the night when the party is done and everybody has left”.
While Aaliyah fans, Gwen Stefani fans and several million other music lovers may want to hurl something at her, we should point out that by her own admission- Cassie hates referencing people and probably was just searching for the most fitting ones she could think of at the moment.
That said, several big time producers have signed on to create new material for Cassie’s album. Hit making giants including Swizz Beatz, Kanye West, her ex-boyfriend Ryan Leslie and Neptune’s own Pharrell have all reportedly contributed to “Electro Love.” While several leaked tracks are floating around the internet, listeners will have to wait and to hear the finished product to get a better feel of Cassie’s new sound.
