After gaining critical acclaim for his roles in HBO’s The Wire and in BBC’s Luther, Idris Elba has landed possibly his biggest role yet.

According to Deadline, the British actor has landed a role that was originally written for Hollywood favorite Tom Cruise.

Idris Elba has closed his deal to play the lead role of Sensi in the Legendary Pictures/Warner Bros sci-fi action film Pacific Rim. Guillermo del Toro is directing as his next film and production gets underway in November. The film’s produced by Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni. Elba joins Son of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam, with Elba playing the role originally developed for Tom Cruise. While Elba has been knocking on the door of big things in Hollywood for some time…his work in the British series Luther really helped show his considerable range.

While Idris is no stranger to the big screen, it’s great to see the “Obsessed” actor landing a role in a highly anticipated film. He’s still doing his thing with a successful Summer run for “Thor” and is currently shooting Ridley Scott’s upcoming blockbuster “Promethues” so I think it’s safe to say the brother will be doing just fine.

I am so happy that he is doing his thing. We need to see more actors of color on the big screen. No one can deny that he is a eye candy and a very talented man. Wish him nothing but the best.

  • Umm…what casting director (female or non-heterosexual male) can look at this man and NOT give him anything he wants?!?! And I guess it helps that he’s also talented :). Excuse me while I go wipe the drool off my face.

  • Mmmm… Congrats to him.

Can we please get a full post to just talk about how FYNE this man is? Goodness!
