Last night, London was ablaze with a host of powerful women from all around the globe. The 2011 Glamour Women of the Year Awards was held at Berkeley Square Gardens.
Celebrities like Keri Hilson, Jameela Jamil and more were in attendance and there were also three women of color who won big at the awards: Naomie Harris for Theatre Actress of the year (left), Jessica Ennis for Sportswoman of the Year (right) and Lenora Crichlow for TV Actress of the Year.
Naomie Harris is one of London’s brightest actresses and we all know her from her roles in 28 Days Later and Pirates of the Caribbean. She is of Jamaican descent and studied at the University of Cambridge, earning a degree in social and political science. She has won a Black Reel Award, been nominated for the Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs and is rumored to be the newest Bond girl. She kept it simple and chic at the awards in a white form-fitting Azzaro dress.
Jessica Ennis is also of Jamaican descent, with her father being born there and then emigrating to England. She is the current World and European heptathlon champion as well as the indoor pentathlon champion. At the awards, she went for elegance with a touch of drama in a lace and ruffle nude-colored dress.
Lenora Crichlow is the star of the extremely popular British science fiction show, Being Human. Her father hails from Trinidad and is known for running the Mangrove in its heyday, one of Notting Hill’s most well-known restaurants frequented in the past by icons including Diana Ross and Jimi Hendrix. She is a rising star and has a very bright future ahead of her. Like Naomie, she went for all white at the awards with nude pumps.
