Billboard’s Erica Thompson sat down with SWV to discuss the group’s upcoming album and reality show which they are currently shopping to networks. On the heels of a remix to Chris Brown’s “She Ain’t You” (which samples the group’s “Right Here” remix, which of course sampled Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature”…), the ladies are excited to be back in the studio and hope that the show gives fans a glimpse at their fight for a comeback.
“For me, it may be a little hard because I’m a little moody, so I may have to take some time off from taping and take a break,” lead singer Coko says. “I had fun,” Lelee tells Thompson “If I can be me and other people enjoy it, then it’s alright with me… it’s just a regular day with cameras.” Taj, who previously appeared on Survivor and her own TVOne show I Married A Baller, says that the show will let viewers know just why the group broke up in the first place. “We’re going to be honest about it. Every day is not perfect.”
Coko promises that longtime fans will be pleased with the forthcoming album: “Same style just new millennium. Kick it up a notch, take it to the next level, but we’re still going to be ourselves.”
SWV is planning a tour for this summer, which will kick off next month. They are also game to the idea of a “super tour” with other girl groups, similar to the massively successful New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys NKOTBSB collaboration. “Why can’t we do that? Why can’t we get a bunch of girls together to do something like that?” Taj asks.
Who would you like to see join SWV for a 90’s reunion tour? I’m going with En Vogue and Brownstone. I’m also holding my breath for the IDEAL super reunion, featuring Al B. Sure! and Christopher Williams.
