Jay-Z is having a pretty damn good year.
Not only did he release the highly-anticipated album Watch the Throne with his protege, Kanye West, and announce to the world that he and superstar wife Beyonce are expecting their first child, but today Jay-Z announced that basketball would soon be coming to his beloved borough of Brooklyn.
In a press conference earlier today, Mr. Carter announced that the New Jersey Nets, of which is is part owner, will now be called the “Brooklyn Nets” and will be moving into their new digs in downtown Brooklyn’s Barclay Center next year (well, providing the NBA lockout ends).
To christen the new arena, Jay-Z says he’ll perform “one or two…or eight” concerts when it opens.
During the interview with Fox 5, Jay said he was proud to bring the Brooklyn Nets to the borough because of the jobs its created (although, I’m sure those who lost their homes because of eminent domain might have another view of things). He also gushed about being a Brooklyn dude, gave Biggie a shout out, and stayed tight-lipped about the sex of he and Beyonce’s baby (of which some say is a baby girl).
