The last thing TV may need is another show about lawyers, but with Shonda Rhimes behind the wheel, it promises to be anything but run of the mill. Sources say ABC has recently scooped up a new legal drama project by Rhimes and Off the Map creator/executive producer Jenna Bans. The premise of the show goes a little something like this: “a young, idealistic defense attorney who, after being ignominiously fired from his high-powered Minneapolis law firm, struggles to start his own firm with an eclectic group of lawyer misfits, while starting to realize that he may have been fired from his old job because he got too close to a deadly cover-up.”
This newest unnamed project marks 3 out of 5 for ABC for Rhimes, and her second sale to the network this season. Last month, ABC bought Gilded Lillys, a late 19th century tale that details the lives of the owners and residents of New York’s first luxury hotel. And in addition to the return of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, Shondaland brings us a mid season drama about “a professional ‘fixer’ who makes problems go away before anyone even knows they exist” called Scandal, starring Kerry Washington. Off The Map, however, was not picked up for a second season.
