TV One has been quietly building its brand over the past few years. Bolstered by reruns of popular ’90s shows like Living Single, Martin, and New York Undercover, the network has also gotten acclaim for its original programming, specifically the show Unsung.
Unsung takes a look at the untold stories of some of the biggest names in R&B and soul music, and has become an instant hit. So far the show has profiled everyone from DeBarge and Donny Hathaway to Phyllis Hyman and Sylvester, Unsung takes viewers behind the scenes and gives the real story on some of their favorite artists.
A few weeks ago, my friends and I got into a conversation about who we’d like to see profiled in the future. Jodeci was at the top of my list, while of my friends mentioned the group Intro (loved them!), and another chimed in with The O’Jays. We debated for an hour, throwing around names and wondering about the lives of some of our favorite artists and groups. Although we have our list (Jodeci, Intro, H-Town, The O’Jays, The Boys, Vesta, Hi-Five, Cece Peniston), I’m sure there are tons that we forgot about.
