Yesterday Congress held hearings on the first American Internet censorship system. Internet censorship bills are already in place in countries like China, Iran and Syria. If passed here in the United States, the government will have the ability to block a site’s web traffic, ad traffic and search traffic, both inside and outside the US, based solely on an infringement claim. Despite its flaws, one of the beautiful things about living in this country is our right to free speech. Being able to voice our thoughts, concerns and opinions is our right as Americans and as human beings, imagine not being able to visit Clutch everyday simply because the government doesn’t like what we as writers and you as readers have to say.
