Virginia Tech University reported that shots were fired on its campus, near a parking lot, at approximately 12:47pm local time today. According to a warning on the school’s website, a white male wearing “gray sweat pants, gray hat, with neon green brim, maroon hoodie and backpack” was spotted walking toward the school’s McComas building.

The university is releasing updates as they occur, and just moment ago reported that a police officer has been shot, and another possible victim has been reported in the Cage parking lot.

The school issued a security alert and asked students to stay inside and call 911 if they spotted the suspect.

The school came under fire 4 years ago after they failed to issue a warning after two students were shot in an on-campus dorm. Their killer, Seung-Hui Cho, went on a rampage that left 33 people dead and many others injured.

This story is developing.

Update: 02:23 pm EST

According to news reports, an officer involved in a traffic stop was shot and killed after an exchange with the suspect. Another person has also been confirmed dead near the campus.
